Target-date is among the most concentrated businesses in asset management. Vanguard alone holds 38% — more than the next two competitors combined — and the top three control two-thirds of $1.87 trillion. Below that there is a sharp cliff. For anyone selling into or competing with this market, the practical reality is that three relationships determine the majority of the flow.
